There have been a few developments in Cowbridge recently.

Long-time resident Bare Foot Studio has popped its trainers on and headed for new, larger premises in Llandow. I suspect a lease renewal (and a request for higher rent) was the catalyst – I don’t know, but it usually is these days.

Homes Of Elegance (originally of, and still in Abergavenny) has closed its doors after what was possibly a speculative and tentative try-out (hey, you’ve got to have a go!). Previously, the unit (No. 81 High Street) was home for a while to And So To Bed. Prior to that it was No.81 Interiors. Unfortunately, Cowbridge, like a lot of towns in Wales, has been suffering over recent years from lower footfall which has impacted on the smaller independent businesses. Combine this with high rents and rates completely out of step with the times and you have a recipe for business closures.

Don’t count Cowbridge out yet though. The jewel in the Vale’s crown (don’t you hate that expression?) has plenty of success stories and new business start-ups so while it might have taken a few hard knocks recently, it’s not out for the count just yet and is still one of Wales’ most popular destinations for ladies that lunch.

If you happen to be in Cowbridge, we can heartily recommend:
The Quarter Penny Cafe
The Bear Hotel
Oscars
Arboreal

There are plenty of others too. You’ll be spoilt for choice.
