HugeDomains.com, for example, in case you have not already come across them, do not appear to be quite as warm and fuzzy as their website might suggest. A quick look online turns up a string of review sites painting the company in a pretty dim light, and it is worth doing that homework before you hand over your card details.
We will not repeat the strongest language used elsewhere online about this company, but we would say this: like a number of the big name registrars, you may get an attractive price up front, only to find the renewal quote considerably higher than expected, sometimes by a few hundred pounds. If an offer looks too good to be true, it is worth reading the small print twice.
Don’t take our word for it…
* Trustpilot (currently rated a poor 2.4 as we type)
* Complaints Board
* Better Business Bureau
It doesn’t fill you with confidence.
* A quick search on who.is turns up no ownership information for HugeDomains other than their domain name, though it is on record that the company registered its own domain name with a different registrar, Name Bright.
Go British
If you would rather use a UK based company, and given the choices available, why wouldn’t you, here are three we rate.
Cog Creative (www.cogcreative.co.uk)
A Welsh company covering domain registration, hosting, SSL and SEO, as well as website design and online shop builds. In the interest of full disclosure, Cog Creative is part of the Good Life Publishing family, so we would say that, wouldn’t we, but it doesn’t change the fact that we rate them.
20i (www.20i.co.uk)
British with a great reputation for being easy to deal with. We rate them.
Hosting UK (www.hostinguk.net)
St Asaph based, similar to Heart Internet though with a narrower range of services, but a solid, reliable company nonetheless.
Buy British if you can, and if you are based in Wales, support Welsh companies where possible.
