From Narberth to Cowbridge, from Penarth to Prestatyn, businesses across Wales are complaining about their business rates.
Can it really be our Welsh Councils’ fault? Well, when you look at what councils actually provide for their rates, there may be a strong argument for taking them to task. Something that councils rarely consider when increasing business rates is that a bustling town centre is actually good for the community. It’s good for moral. It creates an environment where people are encouraged to socialise – something we really need as human beings, promotes social responsibility and positive interaction. Town centres and busy high streets are good for us – councils could, and should, be investing more by reducing costs to small businesses not increasing them.
